CLINTON, BC — In a heartfelt gathering on Llenllenéy’ten territory, Kukpi7 and Council held a formal ceremony to honour outgoing leadership and welcome two new Councillors to the table.

The event began with Kukpi7 Jamie Fletcher presenting Certificates of Service and gifts to outgoing Councillors Derek Fletcher and Michael Fletcher. Councillor Derek was recognized for his remarkable 12 years of service across three consecutive terms, while Councillor Michael was acknowledged for his dedicated four-year term. As a sign of gratitude and respect, both outgoing councillors were honoured with a blanket ceremony conducted by newly elected Council members.

The celebration included powerful drumming and song, led by Keisha Fletcher, Kayla Fletcher, Jesse Fletcher, and Kendall Cantre. Kendall also offered a Cree song and drumming.

“We thank Councillor Derek and Councillor Michael for their commitment, wisdom and service,” said Kukpi7 Jamie Fletcher.

The ceremony also marked the official swearing-in of newly elected Councillors, Councillor Joan Fletcher and Councillor Cassidy Fletcher-McKague. Who both signed the Oath of Office, committing to serve Llenllenéy’ten with integrity, respect, and a deep sense of responsibility to the Nation.

High Bar First Nation also extended thanks to Electoral Officer Nancy Rempel and Electoral Assistant Diana Guerin, who volunteered their time and effort to oversee the recent election process. Gifts were presented in recognition of their valued support and contribution to good governance.

This ceremony marks an important moment of transition and renewal for High Bar First Nation’s leadership team as they continue their work to advance the Nation’s strategic priorities and uphold the responsibilities of the land and people.
